What Is A Wall Traveling Jib Crane?

Haitai wall traveling jib crane is a wall-mounted, slewing-boom crane that mounts directly to a structural wall or building column. It consumes no floor space and imposes no foundation requirement on the workshop floor.

The jib crane’s truss-section horizontal boom carries an electric chain hoist on a motorized trolley. It ensures operators’ precise three-axis load control across a working radius of up to 12 meters and a slewing arc of up to 360°.

Working grade A5 classifies this cantilever jib crane for sustained, moderate-to-high duty operation. For example, it suits to production lines, fabrication workshops, assembly bays, and loading zones where lifting frequency is regular and consistent throughout the shift.

With a lighter structural profile than a floor mounted jib crane of equivalent radius, the wall traveling jib crane is the correct choice where floor space is at a premium, where multiple cranes must share a wall-line, or where the building structure provides a suitable and cost-effective mounting point.

Structural Design: Engineering Details

Truss Boom

The boom (cantilever arm) uses a welded steel truss design, as detailed in this following structure image. The top and bottom chords are structural steel sections (T-section or flat bar); the web members are welded between chords at a defined angle to form the triangulated lattice. This structural form is chosen specifically for long-radius cantilever applications because it achieves much lower tip deflection than a solid beam of equal weight — a critical requirement for maintaining trolley positioning and preventing the hoist from running to the boom tip under its own weight on the down-slope created by deflection.

The hoist trolley travels on the bottom chord of the truss, with the bottom chord profile machined or rolled to a standard bottom flange section (per BS 4 / DIN 1025) to accept standard electric chain hoist or wire rope hoist push or motorized trolleys.

Wall Bracket and Travel Rail

The wall bracket assembly consists of: an upper mounting plate bolted to the wall with anchor bolts (minimum embedment ≥500 mm per engineering drawing); a lower guide bracket; and the slewing pivot housing. The travel rail — width 1,200 mm (per view A of engineering drawing) — is welded to the bracket and extends along the wall to the limits of the crane’s travel zone.

The bracket is designed to transfer both the vertical load (crane dead weight + rated payload) and the horizontal overturning moment (from the cantilever boom) into the wall anchor system. The wall must be assessed by a qualified structural engineer to confirm it can carry these combined loads — Haitai provides bracket load calculation documents as a standard project deliverable.

Bogie Travel Assembly

The crane travels along the wall rail on a motorized bogie assembly. Per the engineering drawing, the bogie spans 2,000 mm (inner wheel centres), 3,200 mm, and 3,700 mm (outer dimensions). The bogie drive motor moves the complete crane assembly along the wall rail, allowing the operator to reposition the crane’s working zone along the wall. End-of-travel limit switches on the bogie prevent overrun at the ends of the rail.

آلية الدوران

The slewing assembly connects the boom to the wall bracket pivot and provides motorized rotation to the specified arc. The slewing drive uses a helical bevel gearmotor engaging a slewing ring gear, with dynamic braking for controlled stop. On 180° and 270° models, adjustable mechanical stops and limit switches define the rotation limits precisely, cutting power to the slewing motor at end positions and preventing cable wind-up on the pendant or festoon cable.

Engineering Advantages of Haitai Wall Traveling Jib Crane

◆  Zero Floor Space — Full Workshop Floor Preserved
Mounted entirely to the wall or building column, the crane installs with no floor foundation and no column footprint. The full workshop floor beneath the crane’s working arc remains unobstructed for production equipment, AGVs, forklift travel, and operator movement.
◆  Truss-Section Boom — Stiff at Long Radius
The horizontal boom uses a welded steel truss structure (triangulated chord and web members, as shown in the engineering drawing). This form provides significantly higher bending stiffness per kilogram than a solid I-beam or box section at radii above 6 meters — limiting tip deflection and maintaining consistent trolley positioning across the full radius.
◆  A5 Working Grade — Production-Rated Duty
ISO 4301-1 working grade A5 classifies the crane for sustained, regular lifting duty across multiple shifts — a higher classification than most floor-mounted jib cranes (typically A3–A4). All structural components, welds, and mechanical elements are designed and fatigue-rated to A5 cycle life, making this crane appropriate for production-line applications, not just occasional maintenance use.
◆  Multi-Unit Installation on a Single Wall Line
As shown in Images 1 and 2, multiple Haitai wall traveling jib cranes can be installed on a single wall line, each serving a dedicated workstation zone. Each crane travels independently along its own section of wall rail, and slewing arcs can be configured to overlap or remain discrete depending on the production layout. Anti-collision systems prevent adjacent crane contact.
◆  Motor-Driven Slewing with Smooth Start/Stop
Electric slewing drive with reduction gearbox and dynamic braking provides smooth, controlled rotation at low speed under full load. Pendant-controlled slewing eliminates operator effort in rotating the boom, which is critical for long-radius (8–12 m) cranes where manual rotation would be impractical under load.
◆  Variable Slewing Arc: 180° to 360°
The slewing angle is defined by the installation context. 180° is standard for cranes mounted flat against a wall (where the wall prevents rotation past the mounting face). 270° suits corner installations or walls with clearance on one side. 360° full rotation is available where the mounting structure allows. Custom intermediate angles are available on request.
◆  Compatible with Conductor Bar Power Supply
As visible in Image 2, the wall rail assembly integrates an orange conductor bar power track for the hoist and slewing motor supply. This eliminates festoon cable drag along the travel rail, improving reliability and reducing cable wear in high-travel-frequency applications — a standard feature on Haitai wall traveling jib cranes.
◆  Compact Wall Bracket — Adaptable to Column or RC Wall
The wall bracket mounts directly to a reinforced concrete structural wall (minimum 450 mm section, 500 mm embedment per drawing) or to a structural steel column with appropriate flange adapter. The bracket geometry positions the travel rail and slewing pivot at the correct elevation for the specified hook height.

Installed Wall Traveling Jib Crane Application Examples

Image 1 — Dual Wall Traveling Jib Cranes, 2 Ton Each, Manufacturing Facility

Image 1 shows two Haitai 2t wall traveling jib cranes installed in parallel on the same structural wall of a large manufacturing facility. Each jib crane is independently motorized for slewing and trolley travel, with separate pendant controls. The yellow-painted truss booms are clearly visible mounted to a shared wall bracket rail system. Conductor bar power supply runs along the wall rail. This multiple jib cranes configuration is a cost-effective alternative to a full overhead bridge crane where coverage of a defined wall-side working zone, rather than the full bay width, is required. Each crane serves its designated production stations independently, without competing for shared crane time.

Image 2 — Multi-Level Wall Jib Crane Array, White Industrial Finish

Image 2 shows a high-specification Haitai installation featuring multiple wall traveling jib cranes at multiple levels in a large-span facility. The cranes are finished in white with orange conductor bars visible along the wall rail — indicating a cleanroom-adjacent or appearance-sensitive industrial environment. The yellow low-headroom wire rope hoists are matched to the available ceiling height. This installation demonstrates the system’s scalability: a single wall line can support multiple independent crane units, each with its own hoist, serving consecutive workstations along the production wall. The conductor bar supply system eliminates cable festoon management across multiple units.

Image 3 — 2-ton Red-Finished Wall Traveling Jib Crane, Machine Shop

Image 3 shows a single Haitai 2t wall traveling jib crane in a red polyurethane finish, serving a machine shop bay. The truss boom structure is clearly visible in this installation — note the triangulated web members providing stiffness across the full cantilever length. The crane’s motorized travel bogies are visible on the wall-mounted rail at the right. The green wire rope electric hoist with paired motors is matched to a 2t rated capacity. The rated capacity plate on the boom (2t yellow label) is clearly displayed per CE and local safety marking requirements. This installation serves CNC machining equipment requiring regular component loading and unloading — a classic A5 duty cycle application.

Image 4 — Light-Duty Wall Jib Crane, Instrument and Equipment Room

Image 4 shows a compact Haitai wall traveling jib crane in an instrument or equipment room, fitted with a light-duty electric chain hoist. This installation demonstrates the crane’s scalability to very light applications — equipment rack loading, instrument case handling, server or electrical equipment installation in enclosed technical spaces. The conductor bar (black, ceiling-mounted) manages the power supply to the hoist along the compact travel range. The boom-wall bracket assembly is compact enough to install in a standard-height room without civil modification. Tool cases and equipment cases are visible on the workbenches below — the crane serves a precision, low-frequency but ergonomically important lifting function.

Jib Crane Wall Mounting Requirements

Critical: The wall or structural column on which the crane is mounted must be assessed and confirmed as structurally adequate by a qualified civil or structural engineer before installation. Haitai Crane provides bracket load calculation documents (vertical reaction, horizontal moment, anchor bolt forces) as a standard deliverable. Do not install without engineering sign-off on the mounting structure.

الأسئلة الشائعة

لأي استفسارات لم تتم الإجابة عليها، تواصل مع فريق الدعم لدينا عبر البريد الإلكتروني. سنرد عليك في أقرب وقت ممكن لمساعدتك.
Q1: What is a wall traveling jib crane, and how is it different from a standard wall-mounted jib crane?
A standard wall-mounted jib crane is fixed to the wall at one point and can only rotate, not move along the wall. A wall traveling jib crane adds a motorized travel bogie system on a wall-mounted rail, allowing the entire crane to move horizontally along the wall while rotating. This lets one crane serve a longer wall section and cover multiple workstations without manual repositioning or multiple separate cranes. Haitai's wall-traveling jib crane combines rotating arc coverage and linear wall travel to offer the maximum coverage from wall-mounted infrastructure.
Q2: Can a wall traveling jib crane be installed on a steel structure building instead of reinforced concrete?
Yes. The wall bracket can be adapted to fit structural steel columns or beams with a flanged adapter plate, which can be welded or bolted on-site based on site conditions and column section. The core requirement is that the steel structural member can bear the combined vertical reaction and overturning moment from the crane, and Haitai provides official load calculation documents for every project. Before installation, the site's structural or civil engineer needs to review and confirm the steel structure's load capacity. Haitai's engineering team can provide guidance on mounting options and required column section sizes during the quotation stage.
Q3: How many wall traveling jib cranes can share one wall rail?
In theory, as long as the rail is continuous and the wall bracket system is designed to bear the combined load, any number of cranes can share one rail. In practice, Haitai has completed projects with 3 to 6 or more cranes on one wall line. Each crane needs its own power supply, control device and travel drive system. When multiple cranes share a rail, anti-collision systems (mechanical buffers plus electric limit switches, or proximity sensors) prevent collisions between adjacent jib cranes. The total rail length is calculated to ensure each crane has its required travel area while keeping the minimum spacing between cranes. You can contact Haitai engineering with the number of cranes, each crane's travel area requirement and available wall length for consultation.
Q4: What is working grade A5, and why does it matter for production-line applications?
Working grade (also called duty class) is defined in ISO 4301-1:2016, which classifies cranes based on the total number of lifting cycles in the design life and the typical load spectrum (ratio of average lift to maximum rated load). Compared with grades A3 to A4, Grade A5 has a much higher total cycle count, and is designed for cranes that work regularly every shift instead of occasional use. For production lines that require 30 to 100 or more lifts per shift, 5 to 7 days a week, A5 is the appropriate grade. Choosing a lower-grade crane for A5-level work is a common procurement mistake that will lead to structural fatigue damage long before the crane's expected service life. All of Haitai's wall traveling jib cranes are designed and fabricated, and welded to A5 throughout to meet A5 standards.
Q5: Can the boom length (working radius) be extended after the crane is installed?
No. The boom length is a fixed structural dimension manufactured according to the ordered working radius. Extending the boom after manufacturing is not a simple on-site modification; it requires a new boom structure, recalculation of the rotating assembly and re-evaluation of the wall bracket, because the overturning moment on the wall increases with the radius. If you expect to need a longer radius in the future, you should confirm the longer radius when placing an order. The cost difference during manufacturing is much smaller than the cost of replacing the entire boom after installation. Haitai Crane recommends that you reserve a reasonable margin and specify the maximum expected radius during procurement.
